If snoring, bruxism or sleep apnoea regularly disrupt your sleep, you probably find yourself lacking in concentration and feeling tired throughout the day. Our principal dentist Alistair Martin is registered to provide a revolutionary anti-snoring device known as Somnowell. This innovative device is the only oral appliance that can provide a solution to snoring that is both comfortable and effective and we are delighted to offer it to our patients.
What is Somnowell?
Somnowell is an anti-snoring device worn over the mouth while you sleep. By gently holding the jaw in what’s known as ‘the recovery position’, it keeps the airway open so you can breathe easily during the night. It is made from a material called cast chrome-cobalt alloy, which is often used to create high quality dental restorations. Chrome-cobalt is resistant to bacteria and is suitable for long-term oral use.
The Somnowell device is built to last and even after a decade of use it will still look and feel as it did when it was brand new.
How does it work?
The Somnowell anti-snoring device works by holding your jaw gently open in the ‘recovery position’ when you sleep. This effective method makes sure the airway is open during the night to prevent snoring and breathing difficulties. The device has a unique lower jaw connecting section that grants the tongue plenty of space to move around, making it far more comfortable than other anti-snoring products. It’s so comfortable that once you’ve got used to wearing it, you’ll forget it’s even there!
Whilst wearing the Somnowell appliance, you will be able to speak, drink and take medication as easily as you would without it.
Made from high quality thermoplastic, Somnowell Clear is a discreet alternative to the chrome device. This unique appliance uses the latest dental technology and most advanced equipment available to put a stop to snoring and sleep apnoea. The device can be adjusted to meet your unique and changing needs and fits perfectly to your mouth due to its 100% custom shape.
Does the Somnowell device treat other problems?
As well as being a comfortable and effective method to treat snoring, the Somnowell device also takes the individual features of each patient’s jaw joint into account. This means it can be used to successfully treat jaw pain. The Somnowell device also helps to keep the teeth in position to prevent subconscious grinding, also known as bruxism.
